Today was opening day at Smirkus. I was wide awake at 6am, with all the things I needed to do racing through my head. I hit the ground running, and only now (11pm) am finally slowing down. I had about 4 bites of lunch, a quick dinner, and a couple of candy bars to sustain me.
But the real story - the first show was a little bit rocky. It was a lot of racing around today to get things done - signs posted, midway cleared, and folks asking me directions.
The first show started a little bit late, but went really well. The performers were amazing, and the show is really coming together. The second show went really smoothly - started at 7:03 and ended at 9:08 - not bad for a first day! The first show had some issues with having to ask kids to keep off the ring curb so they didn't get hurt, I busted one woman for flash photography, had a parent tell me he couldn't care less that we don't allow photos to be taken, and several volunteers who never showed up. However, I had other parents, and even our Executive Director, jump in and help.
We were also blessed with beautiful weather, and large, appreciative crowds. I hear that the next set of shows will be very challenging in that the houses will likely be sold out. Great news for Smirkus!
Tomorrow, we jump...
